About us

We want to help you maintain momentum towards creating more sustainable lifestyles, businesses and communities. Over time, you will find lots of different ideas ways to make small steps to sustainability.

Small steps + unified action = big results.

Peter Bruce

This website is still relatively new, and so far its just me working on it. I believe it has huge potential and I look forward to working with partners in other countries to create more steps to sustainability This could include advertising sustainable goods and services.  I don’t want to go down the adsense path – as I want all advertising to be for sustainable goods and services. If you have any suggestions, please leave a comment.

When we look at the problems facing the planet, its easy to feel overwhelmed, and that one person can’t do much. But I believe that there are lots of small steps we can take, in our lives at home and at work. These range from practical steps such as changing habits, to getting informed, changing our thinking and talking with others about sustainability.

I also intend to use this blog as a base for my business, and have taken up the challenge of working out ways to generate income. I will let you know how I do so.

I’m Peter Bruce – born and raised in Northland, New Zealand. I have a longstanding involvement in sustainability. I am grateful to my primary school teachers, back in the sixties in my remote village of Te Kopuru, for awakening a passion for the environment.  In the year 2000, my book Better Business for a Better World was published. I have assisted companies with the development of Environmental Management Systems, corporate citizenship, and stakeholder engagement projects. I love helping companies to learn about how to position sustainability initiatives at the heart of strategy.

I am also is an academic, researcher and blogger. I teach on the Business Management degree and diploma programmes at NorthTec. My current research includes projects on the relevance of the AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard to small business, and, in conjunction with Northpower, business models for the implementation of photovoltaic power generation. In 2008 I led a team from NorthTec and AUT, commissioned by the New Zealand Refining Company to help them understand their corporate citizenship. My qualifications include a Masters in Management, diplomas in Training and Development, Tertiary Education and Horticulture. My consultancy work focuses around stakeholder engagement, sustainability, organisational development and online course development. I am especially interested in helping companies to develop their stakeholder engagement processes, so they can position engagement at the leading edge of sustainability initiatives. Read more about this at www.stakeholderengagement.co.

I am excited by our rediscovery of a sense of community that I see happening around the word. I am privileged to live in a beautiful city, Whangarei with my beautiful wife and family. To help foster the spirit of community building, I am an active committee member of Whangarei Area Neighbourhood Support and the Whangarei Bahá’í Community.
